Elongational Viscosity Estimation

Software for estimation of elongational viscosity using entrance loss data

The elongational viscosity estimation module of the PELDOM software can accurately estimate the axisymmetric as well as planar elongational viscosity of a polymer using the entrance loss data from a capillary or slit rheometer. The elongational viscosity estimation, which is based upon a finite element simulation of the flow in a capillary or slit rheometer, is much more accurate than the corresponding predictions from approximate analysis of Cogswell or Binding. This unique software has now eliminated the need to buy an expensive extension rheometer.

PELDOM estimates the elongational viscosity by optimizing the values of the four rheological parameters in the Sarkar-Gupta elongational viscosity model such that the experimental data on entrance pressure loss is in agreement with the corresponding finite element predictions.
