The software can simulate complex three-dimensional polymeric flows including the effect of not only the shear-thinning behavior of polymeric viscosity, but also the strain-rate dependence of the elongational viscosity of the polymer. The software can be used to accurately simulate the flow in extrusion dies and in the screw portion of single- as well as twin-screw extruders. The benefits of using the software include:
- Accurate prediction of flow rate and pressure during extrusion
- Balancing of the flow in extrusion dies. The software can be used to balance many different types of dies, including sheet dies, spiral-mandrel dies and profile dies
Some of the important features in the 3D Flow Module are:
- Linear tetrahedral finite elements are used, allowing free mesh generation over complicated flow domains
- Up to 1 million tetrahedral finite elements can be used on a typical PC
- High computational efficiency - most simulations are completed within a few hours
- Easy to use graphical interface
